Exploring ancient ruins, savoring delicious food, wandering round fascinating museums, going butterfly watching, and choosing your favorite section of jaw-droppingly beautiful coastline – these are just some of the many top things to do in Mexico.
8-MERIDA
Merida is filled with history and culture: you’ll find plenty to explore within the halls of its popular museums. I now live there in the winter and make the trip between Cancun and Merida twice a year (though these days we drive) to catch flights to the UK.

4-TULUM
The name Tulum, derived from the Mayan word for wall, and the ruins hovering over the beach, most notably the giant pyramid-shaped Castillo, have gained notoriety as 1 of the Mayan civilization’s only walled cities. Tulum was a carefully held secret among residents who settled in this Mayan community over 30 years ago.
3-GUADALAJARA
Guadalajara is the capital city of the central state of Jalisco in Mexico. It’s also the second largest city in the country and considered a colonial city, although much of its architecture dates from the independence period. This is the birthplace of mariachi music and tequila, but also one of the country’s industrial and business centers, sometimes referred to as Mexico’s Silicon Valley.
2-TODOS SANTOS
It was a blazingly bright afternoon on Cerritos Beach just outside Todos Santos, Mexico. The air was hot and dry and smelled like frying fish.Recently renovated, the hotel was opened in 1947 by “El Chino,” a Chinese immigrant who introduced ice to Todos Santos.
